From his downtown office, Michael Scheinman scrolls through Campspot.com, highlighting rustic campgrounds in the Pacific Northwest, a luxury RV park in Southern California with an outdoor pool and cabanas and everything in between, according to a report from MLive.com.

With the click of a mouse, a reservation is at his fingertips.

“We want to make booking a campground as easy as it is to book something on Airbnb or to book something on Booking.com,” said Scheinman, who spent 12 years at online travel giant Expedia Group before becoming CEO of the Grand Rapids-based company in 2021.

After launching in 2016 with just a handful of campgrounds, Campspot now features over 2,100 RV parks and private campgrounds in every U.S. state and Canadian province. Before, many relied on the phone or pen and paper for reservations. Now, they’re under one digital space, broadening their reach to potential customers.

“The mission has always been to really serve as the intersection between outdoor travel and technology, and we’ve made huge strides in that direction,” Scheinman said during an interview from the company’s headquarters at 38 Commerce Ave. SW in downtown Grand Rapids, Mich.
