Gear Review: GCI Outdoor Freeform Zero Gravity Lounger
Zero gravity loungers have been around for a while and they haven’t changed much over the years. They typically function in two positions: upright or fully reclined. But GCI Outdoor has managed to create something new. With the GCI Outdoor Freeform Zero Gravity Lounger, you get a third option. You can sit with the back upright while elevating your legs, much like you would with a recliner in your living room.
On our last camping trip, I had the chance to test this lounger chair out for four days in northern Minnesota, and I can say that it is a significant improvement to the design. If you’re hanging out around the campfire, a full recline takes you out of the conversation. Yes, it’s comfortable, but everyone assumes that you’re taking a nap (which would be fine, too). Raising your legs and locking the chair introduces a new level of luxury, and you’re still upright so you can chat with your fellow campers. I think it’s an addition that needed to happen.

The GCI Outdoor Freeform Zero Gravity Lounger has a mesh back for breathability, a phone and beverage holder, and an adjustable pillow. The chair weighs in at about 17 pounds and folds flat for easy transport. After a few nights around the campfire, I can say that it’s the most comfortable camping chair I’ve ever tested. It’s slightly bulkier than others, but hey — car camping is all about creature comforts. You’ll be glad that it made the trip with you.
