EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a column by Ryan Horsey of Parkview RV Cneter in Smyrna, Del. Horsey is the chairman of the RV Dealers Association (RVDA), and this colu,n originally was published in the April issue of RV Executive Today. It is posted here with permission.
The 2024 camping season is here! RV shows across the U.S. are reporting good attendance, and as new and repeat buyers hit the asphalt, memories are waiting to be made. Our industry is poised for a great year, with positive outlooks in sales, service, rentals, and campground capacity.
RV dealerships are working hard: generating leads, training staff, and capitalizing on sales opportunities at shows and on their lots. The parts and service departments (fixed operations) are also seeing signs of a busy year ahead and striving to create an “all win” relationship with customers.
One of the most common questions we hear at the dealership is “How long will my RV last?” Proper maintenance beyond the warranty period is key to a successful ownership experience. The unsung heroes of dealerships – the F&I department – can help!
A good F&I department does more than secure financing and insurance. F&I professionals provide peace of mind to our RV adventurers by helping off-set finances with repairs, offering extended service agreements protecting the RV owner. Amid fluctuating interest rates and evolving F&I training, these unsung heroes in F&I are crucial to a dealership’s success.
We should be prepared to answer questions from first time RV users such as: what is it like to go camping in a RV? Will I enjoy the experience and maximize my leisure time? What will it be like to own one?
A lot of travelers plan to rent an RV in 2024. While both rental dealers and platforms offer a way to experience RVing, it’s important to choose a reputable source that will ensure a positive experience, unlike the chaotic RV trip depicted in the movie “RV.” RV rental dealers strive to offer great pre-trip preparation and customer service for new and experienced RV renters.
