RV One, Vermont Park Recovering After Severe Flooding
At least two companies, RV One in East Montpelier and Horseshoe Acres Campground in Andover, were significantly impacted by the recent flooding that took place in Vermont.
Dangerous weather could bring more flash floods to Vermont – just as the state begins its long recovery from devastating rainfall that deluged the region earlier this week, according to a CNN report. At least one person died in the recent storms and flooding, the Vermont Department of Health said in a news release.
RV One is owned by Blue Compass RV, and Jon Ferrando, the dealer group’s president and CEO, told RVBusiness that the flooding has had a “devastating impact on the community and the store, similar to what we saw at our Fort Myers store for Blue Compass RV.”
Ferrando noted the “resiliency of the team and our scale allows us to reopen in short order, as we have gone through this in the past.” There is an upcoming consumer show, he added, but OEM partners have been forthcoming with additional inventory.
“Blue Compass is 100% behind our associates, similar to how we were with our team in Fort Myers, Fla.,” Ferrando concluded.
As fas as Horseshoe Acres Campground, based on the park’s Facebook posts, the park has had to cancel short-term camping reservations for the next week — potentially longer. (You can see videos of the park below.)
Here is the most recent update from the park:
“Hello campers. We are opening back up for the weekend for our seasonal campers on the main hill sites 20 through 71 and sites A through M and the back 40 sites 88 through 107. Parking is a problem for sites 1 through 19 because the ground is still very soft. Please park near the bathhouse and walk in. The water is on but the system has not yet been sterilized because there are still too many breaches so please do not drink the tap water. Some services are still not available. Wi-Fi and TV systems were both impacted. Repairs are underway but service may not be fully restored this weekend. Additionally, please be aware that clean-up is still underway in parts of the park so heavy equipment will be moving back and forth. The pool is not open yet and the safari is closed. Only workers and people who need to get their belongings from their sites may go over to the safari side of the campground. Thank you for your patience and for your help. More pictures of the crew and of clean-up efforts here. It’s coming along.”
Vermont’s commissioner of public safety, Jennifer Morrison, told CNN on Wednesday (July 12) more than 200 people have been rescued and over 100 evacuations had been performed. She called the situation “an absolute crisis” that could take years — potentially even a decade — to repair.
There had been concerns about several dams in the state as they neared capacity, but on Tuesday night Montpelier officials said the Wrightsville Dam was “beginning to recede” and both major rivers were “now below flood stage.”
