National parks are continuing the trend of sharing bad reviews. While many have shared their worst comments, like Joshua Tree and Shenandoah National Park, Alaska’s Kenai Fjords National Park shared one mediocre review. This review has left plenty of people scratching their heads.

The reviewer gave the park on Alaska’s coast three out of five stars. While the snow-capped mountains were impressive, they eventually grew tired of seeing the park’s many glaciers and wildlife, including puffins, sea lions, and an occasional humpback whale.

Despite the remote location, Kenai Fjords is one of the easier Alaskan national parks to reach. It comes right behind Denali as a popular destination, and the landscape is a big selling point.

So, if this review hasn’t dissuaded you from visiting, here’s what you need to know to visit:

Getting There

Compared to many parks in Alaska, Kenai Fjords National Park is arguably one of the easiest to get to, and you can drive there from the town of Seward, which is about a 2.5-hour trip from Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage.

In the summer, you can also take the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward, which has to be one of the most unique ways to get to a national park.

Finally, Kenai Fjords is a popular stop for cruise ships. You can find multiple trips by boat on the west coast, including ships leaving out of Seattle.

What to Do and See

Kenai Fjords is a park that has it all. Mountains, the sea, glaciers, and tons of wildlife. Named for the fjords on Alaska’s coast, you’ll find steep cliffs and glaciers dumping into the sea. There are also fantastic hikes up rocky trails with spectacular views.

As far as wildlife, the ocean is packed with seabirds like puffins and mammals like seals. Further from the coastline are black and brown bears, mountain goats, and lynx. The park is a great place for adventure. Just be sure to take proper precautions and prepare for the remote destination.
