How to Plan an Epic Sledding Day for Your Closest Friends

When it comes to easy outdoor adventures, sledding is a great activity to do with family and friends. The cool air on your skin and the bright snow on the ground offers an exhilarating way to spend the day. Some of my favorite childhood memories were from snow days. Spending the whole day out in the cold, followed by hot chocolate and caramel corn in the warm house. If you–or your kids–can’t wait for that first snow day, maybe it’s time to plan for it. So flip those pajamas inside out and start planning the best sledding day yet.

Sleds and Tubes

There are a variety of excellent sleds on the market right now, and they come in many different styles. If you’re looking for a classic-style sled, the Classic Flexible Flyer is a great option with its sturdy wooden body and steel runners. If you like a little extra security and want something with a lip, this ERA Pro Expedition Sled is a great option made from heavy-duty polyethylene that can carry up to 500 pounds.

Sleds aren’t your only option for a fun snow day. Snow tubing is another way to fly down a snowy slope, and if you’ve never done it before, you’re in for a treat.  When choosing a snow tube, you want to make sure you get a strong tube made from high-quality rubber that will offer a smooth ride down the hill. When the tube is fully inflated, it should sound like a drum when you tap the bottom. If you’re looking for something that will be hard to misplace or lose in a big storm, try this novelty tube from Syhood, featuring an adorable duck in ski goggles. Made from cold-resistant PVC, these snow tubes are made to withstand chill and are extra large so you can pile in a group of kids for a fun ride down the mountain.

Snow Gear

Sledding is a great activity for anyone to do because it requires significantly less gear than many other outdoor winter activities. I went sledding countless times with friends in a few layers of sweatpants, thick socks, and Dr. Martens. But, if you have the money, I would highly recommend getting a sturdy pair of real snow boots and some kind of snow pants, whether they’re a traditional pant style or a bib. At the end of the day, having the right protection will make your time playing in the snow a lot more enjoyable, but it isn’t required to have fun.

Post-Play Refreshments

One of the best parts of a snow day is coming in from the cold to warm up and eat your favorite snacks. For a decadent and warming drink, try a delicious hot chocolate bomb. This treat is sure to warm everyone’s hearts and stomachs. When I was a kid, coming in from the snow meant hot chocolate, caramel corn, and watching movies in a cozy blanket. These fond memories can still be made as adults.
