Keen caravan watchers might be familiar with the Bushranger Joey, a hybrid single-axle camper that’s been on the market for 14 years. In that time, the Joey hasn’t seen a great deal of change… until now.

One of the key benefits of the Joey – which has always been a solid rig – is its compact size, while still offering all the comforts you’d need for long-haul travels around Australia. Its size has long offered vanners the opportunity to access campsites that owners of larger offroad vans had to pass by.

While it remains compact – 12ft, in fact – the Bushranger Joey now comes with a side door entrance, whereas previously it had only been available with a rear door. No doubt this small change alone will increase its appeal.

It is also now built atop a hot-dipped-galvanised chassis. It also now comes with 16in alloy wheels, electric brakes and a DO35 standard fitment; in the past, it used a Treg polyblock coupling and had 15in alloys and 10in electric brakes.

The water tank has also been upgraded. In the past, the Joey was offered with a 63L water tank, with a second tank available as an option. Now, it has a 95L tank as standard.

Other key upgrades include a 100Ah lithium battery, a Projecta battery management system, an indoor and outdoor kitchen that includes a 110L Dometic fridge, and loads of storage lockers.

While in our opinion, the Bushranger Joey was always a go-anywhere hybrid worthy of our offroad tracks, it’s safe to say that a great camper has suddenly been turned into an excellent one.
