EDUCATION/SEMINAR

OCT. 28-29: Wilderness first aid course, Sandhill Wildlife Area Outdoor Skills Program, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The course will equip students with the knowledge to respond to emergencies in remote outdoor environments. This comprehensive program provides a twoyear wilderness first aid certification through ASHI. Participants must have a valid CPR/AED certification. Topics include assessing and treating injuries and medical illnesses, managing environmental emergencies, improvising resources, and practicing decision-making in challenging scenarios. Lodging is included in the registration fee, but meals are not provided. Sandhill offers a full kitchen and food storage. OCT. 28: A sandhill crane watch is being offered by Friends of Sandhill at the Sandhill Wildlife Area, 3-8 p.m. Organizers expect a spectacular showing of thousands of cranes coming into roost on the Gallagher Marsh. The group will drive to the hiking trail near Gallagher Marsh and hike to the viewing area. Wear camo or neutral-colored clothing that is not black. Register before Oct. 24. NOV. 11: Deer butchering workshop, Sandhill Wildlife Area Outdoor Skills Program, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The course will provide the skills needed to process and prepare venison. Instructors will break down a deer step-by-step and share tips on hanging a deer at home and storing venison by wrapping or vacuum sealing for the freezer.
