The Christmas Bird Count is the world’s longest-running citizen science project. People of all ages and birding experience levels count birds that they see on the counts, then the data is compiled and used to measure changes in bird populations.
This wealth of information paints a picture of bird distribution and abundance while aiding in the understanding of the urgency of bird conservation.
Participation is free and prior experience is not necessary – new birdwatchers can be teamed with experienced birdwatchers.
