WATCH: What Scares Lions? Apparently, Lightning.

A “bolt from the blue” scared the daylights out of a couple of lions at the MalaMala Game Reserve in South Africa, and a safari guide caught the rare moment on video. Game ranger Gabriel Harmer was there filming when lightning struck in the night’s sky above the reserve and scared two male lions, which leap up at the boom and electric-blue flash.

“Time to head back to camp!” Harmer wrote in his caption sharing the video on Instagram. “It’s been interesting with the huge electrical storms we’ve been experiencing! Shoutout to the guests for being so patient with me as we got to experience this!”

MalaMala Game Reserve then shared Harmer’s video, and it attracted a lot of attention online. It appears even the kings of the animal kingdom get scared at times.
