WATCH: Viral Bald Eaglet, Sunny, Takes Her Very First Flight

Eagle-nest cams are all the rage right now, and one world-famous bald eagle family in Bear Bear Valley, California has exciting news to share: One of the babies, a viral eaglet named Sunny, has taken her first flight. Sunny’s sister Gizmo, who is just a few days younger, stood by and watched. Thousands of fans of the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam are now on “fledge watch” as they wait for Gizmo’s first flight.

“Sunny did it!” wrote Friends of Big Bear Valley and Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam in its Facebook post sharing a clip of the eaglet’s first flight. “At 10:46 am this morning [June 2, 2025], Sunny flew from the upper Y-branch right out into the world! She put up her wings to catch the wind and then jumped up and let those beautiful wings carry her. She circled back around toward Shadow and Jackie’s favorite roost tree . . . Gizmo watched the whole thing from right beside Sunny. She looked completely fascinated and kept her eyes on Sunny flying away from the nest.”
