WATCH: Mama Bear and Cub Go Swimming in Backyard Pool

A cute moment caught on camera shows a mama black bear and her young cub enjoying a cool swim in a backyard pool. The home video from Monrovia, California shows the mother bear swimming laps in the pool and trying to encourage her baby to join her. The cub isn’t keen on swimming, though, and it only dips its face and paws in without fully joining in on the fun.
The Monrovia homeowners submitted the footage to KTLA 5 News, and the news station shared it on YouTube. Monrovia is northeast of Los Angeles and borders Angeles National Forest. Bears are common in the area, but it’d still be a shock to spy two of them in your pool.

Although the bears appear to have brown fur, we know they’re black bears (Ursus americanus), since they’re in California. Brown bears (grizzlies) used to live in California, but they no longer do. American black bears can have black, brown, or even blonde fur.
