To the amusement of her owner, Shaneese McLoughlin, Lola can frequently be found in a field of cows near their home in Wicklow, Ireland. Lola enjoys chasing them around, playfully scuttling around their feet.

In a Tiktok video, Shaneese asks her dog to come home and repeatedly says to Lola, “you are not a cow!” as Lola stands defiantly in a field with a herd of cattle. The short video has since gone viral around the world with 21 million views and counting.

Lola’s coat is black and white, so she perfectly mixes with her cow friends of similar coloring. As one commenter points out, Lola is a “bull” dog after all.

Is there a connection between bulldogs and cows historically? According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the breed was once trained to fight with cattle.

“Evidence suggests that Bulldogs were first bred in 13th-century England, during the reign of King John, for the ‘sport’ of bullbaiting, in which a staked bull fought a pack of dogs while spectators bet on the outcome,” it says on the AKC website.

Nowadays, the breed is much more friendly and docile with other animals. Bulldogs are known to make great pets, but they’ve kept their courageous streak. It’s no real surprise that Lola had the audacity to mix with a new group of much larger bovine friends.
