‘Wall Street Journal’ Says Elkhart, Ind., is ‘Hottest Job Market’

Music City, U.S.A., and America’s recreational-vehicle capital are the country’s hottest job markets, according to The Wall Street Journal’s annual rankings of nearly 400 metro areas, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The Nashville, Tenn., metro area—an entertainment hub and state capital that is home to Vanderbilt University—ranked as the best labor market in 2022, among regions with at least one million people. Nashville has benefited from Americans’ desire to move to cities in the South and the resurgence in tourism in recent years.

The Elkhart, Ind., area, about 100 miles east of Chicago, ranked as the best job market among smaller metros. It is home to several RV manufacturers and a hall of fame that celebrates RVs and mobile and manufactured homes. The region is also one of the country’s best housing markets.

The rankings determined the strongest labor markets based on five factors: the unemployment rate, labor-force participation rate, changes to employment levels, the size of the labor force and wages in 2022. Larger areas, with more than one million residents, were ranked separately from smaller ones. The rankings are based on Moody’s Analytics analysis of Labor Department data.
