A trail camera was there to capture a darling red wolf pup’s first howl, and now everyone on the internet can hear it, too. The Wolf Conservation Center, a nonprofit organization in New York, shared the footage of the endangered red wolf pup’s sweet serenade on Instagram.

“Red Wolf Oak’s pup spotted howling for the first time yesterday!” wrote the Wolf Conservation Center in an Instagram post sharing the video. “These tiny howls may be small, but they represent something big: the next generation of red wolves finding their voices. Every milestone like this is a step forward for this critically endangered species.”

The center adds in response to concerned commenters that one of the pups is sleeping; it’s not dead. Apparently, wolf pups sleep an average of 15-18 hours a day! When they’re not sleeping, they practice howling.
