It’s International Day of Forests, a day dedicated back in 2012 to annually celebrating all types of forests and raising awareness about their importance. There are some incredible U.S. forests, including national forests, national parks, and forest reserves to explore and enjoy.

Here are five U.S. forests to visit in 2024:

Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina

With more than 500,000 acres, North Carolina’s Pisgah National Forest is a hardwood forest filled with rivers, waterfalls, and hiking trails.

Olympic National Park, Washington

Olympic National Park is home to the enchanting Hoh Rainforest, one of the few temperate rainforest ecosystems in the United States. It’s a beautiful destination to experience a different type of U.S. forest.

Coconino National Forest, Arizona

Northern Arizona’s Coconino National Forest is a diverse place that encompasses a range of ecosystems, including Ponderosa pine forests, desert, and the famous red rocks of Sedona. It’s a wonderful slice of the American Southwest.
