Video: Watch the Trailer for the Airstream Documentary ‘Alumination’

Officially founded in 1931 by a man named Wally Byam, Airstream is one of the world’s most well-known and respected RV manufacturers. The company’s famous “silver bullet” travel trailers have been an institution on American highways for nearly a century, inspiring countless road trips and camping adventures. Now, a new documentary dives deep into Airstream’s past, giving viewers a never-before look into the history of this iconic brand.

The video above is the trailer for Alumination, the new documentary film from director Eric Bricker. He uses rare archival footage, photographs, and compelling interviews to tell the Airstream story, which begins in Byam’s backyard. That’s where he built his first travel trailer, which initially resembled a tent on wheels more than the famous aluminum towables that would go on to define the company’s brand.

Later, Byam would also lead a series of Airstream caravans across the US, Mexico, Canada, Europe, and even Africa. Footage from those famous expeditions is part of the documentary, too, showing long lines of vehicles towing travel trailers through a variety of exotic locales. Bricker even interviews travelers who were lucky enough to take part in those journeys, living for weeks or even months at a time in their Airstream campers.

The trailer is just long enough to pique the viewer’s interest, promising much more of this intriguing story. The full-length film is available to rent or purchase from Vimeo for those who want to watch the entire video. You can also find out more on the official Alumination website.
