Video: This Double-Decker RV is Home to a Family of 8

When the Eyerly family went looking for a motorhome for full-time RV living, they struggled to find the right model at first. That’s because, with mom and dad, plus six kids, there weren’t a lot of options that provided the space and features they needed. But eventually, they came across a 43-foot-long double-decker bus that—following a complete remodel—felt like the right vehicle. That re-mod took some time, effort, and money, but as you’ll see in the video above, it looks like it was worth it.

The Eyerly’s motorhome—affectionally dubbed “Double D”—is a Van Hool TD925 bus they purchased in 2020. It is powered by a Cummins ISM 10.8L engine mated to ZF Astronic transmission. It stands over 13.5’ in height and weighs over 47,000 pounds, making it a massive vehicle, both on the road and at the campsite.

Inside, the RV resembles a tiny home on wheels. It features a farmhouse-style kitchen, two bathrooms—one with a full shower—and enough space to comfortably sleep ten. The roof of the bus has been converted into a large outdoor deck, which sits next to 355-watt solar panels that feed power to eight lithium-ion batteries and a 6000-watt inverter. The Double D also comes with 75-gallon fresh and gray water tanks, a 70-gallon black water tank, and a 20-gallon hot water heater.

But reading about all the features and amenities inside the vehicle doesn’t really do it justice. The video takes you on a tour of the bus, giving you a better sense of what it is like for the family to live in the RV full-time. You’ll find beautiful craftsmanship, clever design, and excellent use of the available space. You’ll also see a motorhome that is unlike any other on the road.
