Video: A Beautiful Trail-Ready 2023 Ford Transit Van Conversion

For RV designers and manufacturers, working with the Ford Transit platform is akin to having a blank canvas to create art. Sure, it takes some time and effort to achieve the results you want, but the final product often exceeds expectations. Such is the case with the custom-built camper van featured in the video above. From the outside, it looks somewhat plain and unassuming, but inside, it is an impressive demonstration of what can be accomplished by a talented team of builders.

This particular Class B model was built by the crew at Gone Mobile Vans based out of Costa Mesa, California. They took a stock 2023 Ford Transit AWD High-Roof model and converted it from a basic cargo van into a beautiful tiny home on wheels. Features and amenities include a third-party roof rack, retractable awning, and Flarespace body flares that add to the exterior looks, as well as additional space in the interior.

Inside, the vehicle has upgraded flooring and plenty of seating, with the high roof offering extra headroom for tall RVers. An efficient Webasto gas heater provides efficient warmth on chillier outings and is controlled remotely using a smartphone app. A Dometic ceiling-mounted air conditioner handles cooling down the interior when things get warmer outside. A small galley offers room for meal prep and includes a mini-fridge and a sink. Nearby, a versatile table serves as the gathering point for meals before later expanding into a queen-size bed when it’s time to call it a day. Custom cabinets and under-bench compartments offer ample storage.

The 2023 edition of the Transit comes with some notable upgrades that make it an excellent solution for RVers. Those include standard all-wheel-drive, improved ground clearance, and more rugged construction. All of those features come in handy when wandering off-road, where the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine provides 310 horsepower to keep things moving. The van can even tow up to 6,500 pounds, which is over 1,000 pounds more than a Mercedes Sprinter.

The Gone Mobile Vans video is a good example of clean design and efficient use of space. The particular model looks comfortable and homey without feeling crowded.
