George Grengs

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following message from Valterra Products announces the retirement of co-founder George Grengs.

In 1981, George Grengs and his partner started Valterra Products Inc. in a small warehouse in Pacoima, Calif., making and selling the Grentec line of waste valves and fittings, later rebranded under the Valterra brand which everyone recognizes today.

In the 80’s Valterra jumped into the skateboard business and George ran the sales, marketing and product development during this exciting time. The Valterra brand skateboards became nationally recognized with a Valterra skateboard featured in the 1985 “Back to the Future” film with Michael J. Fox riding and holding the board in some of the initial scenes.

Over the years George’s responsibilities covered all aspects of the business but his main stay was in sales and marketing where he established a strong distributor-based business for both the RV Aftermarket/OEM sales channels. In addition, he oversaw the Pool & Spa/Industrial divisions and directly managed the skateboard sales to chain stores in the 80’s and 90’s.

In 2013, there was a recapitalization done with Scott Capital, a private equity company, and Valterra became an LLC with George as the CEO/President. With new capital behind the company, Valterra began an aggressive acquisition program including Phoenix Faucets, Rodale/Mighty Cord, Minder Research, Diamond Lighting, Go Power!, and Monochem tank treatments. It was a busy time, and the company grew dramatically!

Most recently, George was involved with the 2021 sale of Valterra to Dometic during the Covid pandemic. He is incredibly proud that the transition over the last 18 months has been seamless with no impact to our customers.

In 2019, RVIA recognized George with the Jim Barker Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contributions to the RV Aftermarket.

George will retire from full-time leadership of Valterra on Dec. 31. He will continue to function as an Advisor to Valterra in 2023. Leadership for Valterra will move to Bryan Fletcher as General Manager and Hal Harvey as COO.

We wish George and Karen the absolute best in their upcoming retirement and wish them many great adventures!

Regards,

Bryan Fletcher & Hal Harvey Valterra Products, LLC
