Unexpected S-s-s-stowaway in New Hampshire Banana Shipment

Every once in a while, an animal shows up in an unexpected place. This was definitely the case when grocery store employees in New Hampshire discovered a slithery stowaway, a snake, in their shipment of bananas. It was an ornate cat-eyed snake—a “mildly venomous snake” species from Ecuador.

“Hands Off The Bananas,” wrote the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Law Enforcement Division in a Facebook post sharing the story. “On Saturday, February 15th, a Conservation Officer responded to a local grocery store in southern NH after employees discovered an unwanted hitchhiker in a shipment of bananas.”
The organization reports the snake was healthy and sent to a new home shortly after its discovery.
