Two Bald Eagles Go Head to Head in a Battle of Beaks and Talons

Two bald eagles battled hard, and someone was there to capture it on video. The territorial eagles likely clashed because one encroached on the other’s space. In the video, the two eagles begin the skirmish on the ground, but they quickly fall into a river and continue fighting. Each eagle seems to have the other in a talon death grip as they whack each other with their wings and try to peck at their foe with their beaks. Then, the pair settles down a bit and has a screech fight.

“These birds are strongly territorial, particularly during nesting season, and are known to engage in battles over nesting habitats, causing injury and even death,” says the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey on its website.

It’s not clear where this video takes place. The person recording the footage suggests the birds are mating, but it’s more likely that this is a territory dispute between males.
