Truma Provides Tech Tip on How to Decalcify an AquaGo – RVBusiness – Breaking RV Industry News

ELKHART, Ind. – More often than not, the water running through your RV’s water heater is going to be “hard water,” or water with a high mineral content, according to a tech tip from Truma.

With a tankless water heater, like the Truma AquaGo, there are a lot of small spaces where calcium and other mineral debris can accumulate during regular use. Since you probably aren’t lugging around a residential water softener in your RV, this debris will start to build up and begin to affect the performance of your water heater. This is something Truma kept in mind when developing the Truma AquaGo. It is the industry’s first water heater that can be decalcified using the semi-automated “Clean” mode.

Regularly decalcifying your Truma AquaGo will maintain performance quality and help extend the life of the appliance. Truma recommends decalcifying after every 1,585 gallons (6,000 liters) of water used. For low to moderate usage, this will be an annual task. For high usage, especially with harder water, you may find you need to decalcify more frequently. This is completely normal.

To make this routine maintenance task as easy as possible, Truma has developed Decalcification Tablets that can be inserted directly into the AquaGo water inlet filter located behind the bright yellow “Easy Drain Lever.” One package of decalcification tablets is enough for one cleaning cycle so there is no measuring, guessing or waste. These can be purchased directly from Truma via its Amazon storefront: https://www.amazon.com/truma

Truma has put together a guide for depressurizing and decalcifying a Truma AquaGo, with instructions for both the analog AquaGo dial and the Truma CP plus control panel. Two things to keep in mind before getting started:

  • Perform the decalcification process while hooked up to city water — the cleaning and rinsing process use quite a bit of water and you won’t want to run out in the middle.
  • Remember: for safety, the cleaning process cannot be stopped once it begins! This process can take up to three hours, start to finish, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time.

The Fit RV also put together a video tutorial for Decalcifying with the Truma CP plus:

Once decalcification is completed, the Truma AquaGo can be operated as usual. If the system has become “stuck” in Clean mode, follow these steps:

  1. The Truma AquaGo must have power from the main panel.
  2. The outside toggle switch on the AquaGo needs to be in the “On” position.
  3. Turn the analog dial to “Clean” mode (this is the bottom position on the dial).
  4. Wait until you hear the circulation pump cycle on and off. You may need to “wake the dial up” by turning it on and off a couple of times until you hear the circulation pump cycling.
  5. Open a hot water faucet, let the water run until the amber light on the analog dial stops flashing. This could take 15 minutes or more. During this time, you will hear the circulation pump turning off and on intermittently. This is normal and the burner will not ignite.
  6. Once the flush cycle is complete, the green LED above the toggle switch on the outside of the AquaGo will go off. You will see a red LED light fault code below the toggle switch. This is fault code 31 (S,S,S, L,L,L,L,L) “Decalcification Complete.”
  7. Turn the toggle switch on the AquaGo to the “Off” position.
  8. Go inside and turn the analog dial to the “Off” position and wait 30 seconds.
  9. Turn the analog dial to the “ECO” or “Comfort” mode. You may need to “wake the dial up” by slowly turning it on and off a couple of times. The unit should work normally at this time.
