Top Technical Assistance Questions from RVers in Q1 2024 – RVBusiness – Breaking RV Industry News
The 1st Quarter of 2024 saw much more moderate temperatures and winter events as compared to 1st Quarter 2023. This weather differential resulted in about a 30% lower utilization rate as compared to 2023, according to a release from Specialized Dispatch Services (SDS). With that in mind, the events, or reasons for seeking assistance, didn’t change much.
Starting with this quarterly report, SDS officials will include roadside assistance as a part of the utilization data points. This data is compiled from a specific sample size of over 150,000 RV’s and their users. While it does not encompass the whole of RV users, it is meant to give a picture of what RV users are challenged with and the items they seek assistance with the most.
In the 1st Quarter of 2024 water heaters were the No. 1 item RVers sought assistance, accounting for 11% of all calls, followed closely by furnaces, accounting for 9% of all calls.. After those two items, refrigerators, power, slides, and roadside assistance came in very close to each other for 3rd through 6th positions, each accounting for 6% of all calls. As compared to 2023, as noted above, overall call volume was down about 30%. However, overall utilization of virtual support services ran at about a 7% rate.
Specialized Dispatch Services (SDS) currently provides services to a large number of RV households which is growing daily, this gives us a unique insight into the problems/issues that RVer’s are experiencing. To assist the industry to best plan and prepare for service and support needs, SDS will be providing quarterly updates that identify the most frequent reasons RV owners are seeking technical assistance and at times physical service.
