Planning an RV trip to New England this year? If so, be sure to drive up to Bar Harbor in Maine for some beautiful coastlines, premier leaf-peeping, tasty seafood, and the world-famous Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the state and Timberland Acres RV Park will be a perfect place to stay during your early-fall visit.

Bar Harbor is interesting for a variety of reasons. For starters, it’s right on the border of Acadia National Park, which attracts millions of visitors every year. It also grants access to a huge number of lakes and rivers, as well as a winding coastline that’s dotted with beaches.

Because of these features, Bar Harbor has become a popular destination for travelers. There are a multitude of campgrounds to choose from, but Timberland Acres RV Park is one of the largest and best-reviewed options. If you’re looking for a base camp for your next adventure, this is a great spot to consider.

Overview

Timberland Acres RV Park is located in Trenton, Maine. It’s on the inner edge of Bar Harbor and the nearest cities include Hancock, Ellsworth, and Surry. The park itself is not right on the water, but you won’t have to travel far to reach the coast.

This campground is quite large, with a grand total of 245 sites spread across the property. Eighty of these sites include full hookups, while others might only include a few options. But as long as you book in advance, you shouldn’t have any issue finding a spot that includes water, sewage, and electricity.

This is also the perfect destination if you’re traveling with a big rig because many of the sites are designed for large vehicles. There are multiple sites here that are more than 100 feet long, so you’ll have plenty of space to maneuver your RV. After all, there’s nothing worse than trying to squeeze into a tiny spot and worrying about fender benders.

All roads are paved and the sites are covered in an even layer of gravel. Fire pits and picnic tables are also provided at each spot. Plus, Wi-Fi is available throughout the park and multiple cell-phone carriers have good service in this area. You’ll be able to use your devices and work remotely without issue.

The prices here are also quite affordable. They remain fairly constant throughout the open season, although the first few weeks in May are sometimes offered at a bit of a discount. Tent sites and cabins are also available if you need to expand your operations. The average nightly prices are as follows:

  • Tent Site: $45
  • RV Site with Water and Electricity: $56
  • Full Hookup RV Site: $64
  • Small Cabin (No Bathroom): $130
  • Large Cabin (Full Bathroom): $150

Due to the changing seasons in Maine, Timberland Acres RV Park is not open all year long. However, you can visit any time between May 8 and October 25, so you’ve got a nice window to work with. You can learn more about the park and reserve your spot at timberlandacresrvpark.com. Reservations for the 2025 season open November 1.

In addition to the basics, this RV park also offers some attractive amenities. There are a few unique elements here that put it above other campgrounds in the area. It’s not a full resort but you’ll get plenty of bang for your buck.

For starters, all the essentials are covered. Bathrooms and bath houses are available to anyone who wants to freshen up. This is especially handy for those who are staying in a cabin without a bathroom or in an RV that doesn’t have a sewage hookup. A laundry facility is also on the property so you can keep your clothes fresh and clean.

If you forgot to stock up on campground essentials, don’t worry. The camp store is here to help. Here, you can buy propane, ice, firewood, souvenirs, and general supplies. Plus, the Timberland Acres Scoops & Snack Bar will keep you coming back for tasty treats every day. If you’re a seafood lover, you can even buy live or cooked lobster right at the campground.

There are also plenty of outdoor places where you can relax, gather with friends, or enjoy some fun games. A large pavilion is the perfect place for an outdoor gathering, while the playground will help young campers get their energy out. Dogs will enjoy romping through the on-site dog park as well.

As far as entertainment goes, you’ll have your pick. Timberland Acres RV Park offers the following recreation options:

  • Shuffleboard
  • Basketball court
  • Cornhole games
  • Golf cart rentals
  • Arcade
  • Swimming pool
  • Planned activities

There’s something for everyone to enjoy here! Best of all, you get access to all of these amenities for a very reasonable rate.

Nearby Activities/Attractions

Bar Harbor is a popular travel destination, and for good reason. There are a lot of ways you can spend your time, whether that’s exploring nature, learning about the local history, or just enjoying some fun entertainment options.

Acadia National Park is one of the biggest appeals in the area. It’s chock full of trails and opportunities for wildlife photography, birding, and fishing. Cadillac Mountain is a popular hike, but there are also trails that focus on lakes, beaches, and wooded areas. Maine is gorgeous all year long, but it’s especially vibrant in the fall.

Reviews

Finally, let’s cover a few reviews for Timberland Acres RV Park. Timberland has earned an 8.7/10 on RV LIFE Campgrounds. That’s quite high, especially when you consider that more than 250 people have left feedback. Sometimes more reviews can lower the score, but this one has scored consistently across the board.

In addition, this RV park has earned 4.5/5 stars on Google Reviews, so you’ve got a backup source.

Guests remarked that they loved how spacious and clean the sites were. They also complimented the location and how easy it was to access the park from the main road. The fresh lobster was also a major draw for seafood lovers.

There were only a few complaints, but they’re still worth mentioning just so you can get the full picture. For instance, a few visitors felt that Acadia National Park was farther away than they would like. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the park and that travel time can add up if you go every day.

In addition, a couple of the sites were fairly close together so not every area of the park offers privacy. It’s located in a beautiful wooded area, but the campground itself is quite sparse and doesn’t offer a lot of shade.

These critiques are worth considering, but as a whole, the feedback for this RV park is overwhelming positive. To find more notes, campground photographs, and relevant Q&A about this park, visit RV Life Campground Reviews.
