This Week in RV News (June 30, 2023)

Each week there is far more news from the RV industry and travel than we have time to cover. To make up for that, we offer a weekly roundup of the most interesting and important stories that you may have missed. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Guadalupe Mountains National Park Closed Due to Wildfires: Guadalupe Mountains National Park in Texas has temporarily closed its gates due to wildfires. The park posted a statement to its website on Wednesday, June 28, announcing the closure, which will continue until the risk from the fires has been mitigated. Check the park’s website for updated information.
  • Thor Reveals More 2024 Class A Upgrades: In a previous edition of “This Week in RV News” we shared a link from Thor Motor Coach revealing updates and upgrades coming to its 2024 line of Class RVs. It turns out the RV manufacturer wasn’t quite done, as this week, it has even more improvements to its newest models. Read about them here.
  • Grand Design Launches New Website: Earlier this week, Grand Design launched a new website with an enhanced focus on the RV shopping experience. The site is designed to make it easier for both customers and dealers to find the model that most closely fits their needs. Check out the new website here.
  • Yamaha Will Stop Making Snowmobiles: There was bad news for snowmobilers this week, as Yamaha announced that it would cease production of all models and exit the market this year. The company has been making sleds for 55 years and will continue selling them while dealer supplies last. Find out more here.
  • Wall Street Journal Looks at the Illusion of Fully-Booked Campgrounds:  If you’ve tried to book a campsite on short notice recently, you’ve probably found most popular locations are booked solid weeks in advance. A story in The Wall Street Journal took a look at this trend this week and found that while campgrounds are all booked up, many of the sites are empty. What gives?   • CNBC Spotlights Michigan Campground Owners: CNBC’s “Make It” segment focuses on helping readers and viewers to manage and invest their money more efficiently and intelligently. This week, it shared the story of a couple in Michigan who quit their jobs and bought a campground, which turned out to be a fantastic move. Read all about it here.
  • KOA and Holo Footwear Join Forces: Looking for a comfy pair of shoes to wear around the campground? Perhaps the new collab from KOA and Holo Footwear will meet those needs. The two brands announced that they are teaming up to release custom kicks in a multiyear deal. Find out more about this intriguing partnership here.
