The Bowlus Heritage Edition Deftly Blends Modern Tech and Retro Design

Bowlus is best known for building some of the most luxurious—and expensive—travel trailers on the market. The RV manufacturer creates streamlined towables designed for well-heeled customers who don’t mind paying a little more for the most comfortable camping experience possible. But for 2023, the company has revealed a new model that is surprisingly affordable—at least by its lofty standards.

The new Bowlus Heritage Edition lives up to its name. The trailer features all the hallmarks the brand is famous for, including a distinctive exterior design wrapped in aluminum. As with the other towables in the company’s lineup, this model takes inspiration from a bygone era when aircraft were the absolute height of design and engineering. And while the Heritage Edition is an entirely new product, you would be excused for thinking it was originally built in the halcyon days of the 1950s.

But don’t let the travel trailer’s looks fool you. This is a thoroughly modern RV with plenty of outstanding features. The Heritage Edition comes with a 2 kWh battery pack, making off-grid camping easy and convenient. That power system can be upgraded to offer more kilowatt-hours of storage capacity, along with solar panels, and digital control and monitoring systems. In short, if boondocking is your thing, Bowlus has you covered.

The rear of the Heritage Edition has been sculpted to create a comfortable sleeping space, complete with a king-size bed, privacy curtains, and a nightstand. The kitchen/lounge area has a two-burner stove, a microwave oven, composite countertops, and a mini-fridge. The trailer’s couch and armchairs even coverts into beds that can comfortably accommodate two additional adults. Bowlus also included an onboard bathroom with a cassette toilet, stainless steel sink, and a spacious shower.

The trailer comes with a 19-gallon fresh water tank and a 21-gallon gray water reservoir. It features an 11-pound propane tank, a vented air conditioning unit, and a combination furnace/water heater. LED lighting is standard throughout, as are 120-volt electrical outlets for powering and recharging personal devices.

The Heritage Edition base model has a dry weight of just 2,900 pounds, making it one of the lightest full-sized trailers on the market. Bowlus says its low GVWR and sleek design allow easy towing, even with an electric vehicle. The company claims that an EV can maintain 80% of its range while pulling this model, which, if true, speaks to its efficient design.

Anyone who has priced a Bowlus trailer knows its RVs fall into the high-end luxury category. But the Heritage Edition starts at just $159,000, which is a reasonable price point considering everything it delivers. While that may still be beyond the budget of many customers, it does put the legendary Bowlus luxury and quality within reach for more people.
