While towables make up the bulk of RVs sold, there is no denying the aspirational appeal of a Class A model. These motorhomes offer spacious interiors and plenty of amenities, with the added benefit of being able to travel under their own power. But because they are motorized, they also come with a higher price tag that can often put them out of reach for many buyers.

That said, when you factor in the cost of buying a travel trailer or fifth-wheel with the equivalent build quality, interior space, and features—plus a tow vehicle big enough to haul it—a Class A model isn’t as far out of reach as it first seems. Especially when you consider some of the more affordable options currently on the market.

Yes, you can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a high-end motorcoach, but there are also some surprisingly great options that can be had for less than $250,000. Don’t believe us? Here are our favorite models that fall into that category.

Winnebago Vista/Sunstar

The Vista and Sunstar are Winnebago’s entry-level Class A models, but that doesn’t mean they’re lacking in features. Both are gas-powered RVs that ride on the Ford F53 chassis utilizing a 7.3L V8 engine and a six-speed transmission. Driver conveniences include a 7” touchscreen display with integrated Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth audio. High-resolution color backup cameras make it easy to pull in and out of campsites, while a large panoramic windshield and cruise control make highway driving a breeze.

The Vista and Sunstar share four similar floorplans ranging in length from 30’ to 35’ 5”. That makes them much less intimidating to drive than some larger, less maneuverable models. Thanks to thoughtful design and creative use of space, their interiors offer plenty of comfort and convenience, too. With options to sleep five to seven people depending on the model.

As you would expect from Winnebago, the list of standard features for these RVs is long and impressive. The Vista and Sunstar come with gas generators, a 2,000-watt inverter, and deep-cycle marine-grade house batteries. They also have king-size beds in the primary sleeping area, porcelain toilets, a mirrored medicine cabinet, and a large sink in the bathroom. The galley kitchen includes a 12V stainless steel refrigerator, a microwave, a three-burner range, and a stainless steel sink, all for a starting price of just $208,885.

Entegra Coach Vision XL

Entegra Coach is known for building some of the best Class A RVs on the market, but most of them don’t fall under the $250k price point. But the Vision XL starts at $204,743, and like everything else in the Entegra line-up, it is worth every penny.

The Vision XL rides on a heavily modified Ford F53 chassis, which includes Entegra’s E-Z Drive system. This ensures a smooth, comfortable ride on everything from short weekend escapes to cross-country excursions. The company’s use of TuffShell vacuum-bonded laminate floors and sidewalls gives the RV excellent stability and durability, while a one-piece seamless fiberglass roof means this is a coach that will last you a lifetime.

The Vision XL’s five floorplans offer diversity and versatility. But most of all, they offer Entegra’s trademark quality across the entire line, with features like a legless dinette table, a Furrion all-in-one cooktop and oven, and a residential refrigerator and microwave giving the kitchen character and life. Other notable features include a shower with glass doors, stainless steel sinks, a walk-around king bed, and an electric fireplace. We also love the integrated Firefly Multiplex system, which provides complete control and monitoring of the coach’s lighting, climate, power, holding, tanks, and more.

Holiday Rambler Vacationer

With a starting price of $246,587, the Holiday Rambler Vacationer just sneaks in under our price ceiling. But, this Class A model delivers a lot of bang for the buck, offering an upscale experience at a great price.

Available in four floorplans, the Vacationer varies in length from 34’ 3” to 38’ 9” depending on the model. Standard features include a 100W solar panel (upgradeable to 300W), dual A/C units to keep the interior cool and an outdoor entertainment system. All models also have a tankless water heater, illuminated pass-through storage compartments, heated holding tanks, and dual-pane frameless windows. Hydraulic leveling jacks, automatic entrance steps, and a powered awning with LED lighting and a motion-sensing retractor are also standard.

The interior of the Vacationer is no less impressive. In addition to the regular slate of features—a king-size bed, residential refrigerator, multiple smart TVs, etc.—this Class A comes with an electric fireplace, washer/dryer prep, cedar-lined wardrobes, and vinyl tile flooring. Other nice touches include LED accent lighting, a 5.5kW Onan gas generator, a 34,000 BTU furnace, and dual 15,000 BTU air conditioners. The list of amenities found in this motorhome just goes on and on, making it an excellent option for the price.

Thor Vegas

The Thor Vegas is proof that Class A motorhomes don’t have to be big and ponderous to be luxurious and comfortable. With a starting price of $172,350, it also shows that they can be affordable, too. That makes this coach an excellent option for couples who occasionally host visitors on the road.

This model ranges in length from 25’ 8” to 27’ 2” while still providing enough room to comfortably sleep four to five people. Better still, the Vegas is relatively nimble out on the road, driving more like a Class C rather than a Class A. It also glides nicely in and out of small campsites and is much easier to park than larger motorcoaches.

Don’t let the Vegas’s smaller size fool you, however, as it still has plenty to offer inside. Its queen-size bed is plush and cozy, and the porcelain toilet and large shower—complete with overhead skylight—add a touch of class. You’ll also find residential vinyl flooring and LED lighting throughout, along with wireless phone chargers, ceiling ducted air conditioning, and European-style cabinetry. In the kitchen, you’ll even find a double-door refrigerator, a two-burner gas cooktop, a convection microwave, and a stainless steel sink.

Jayco Precept

The Precept is just one of Jayco’s affordable Class A models, all of which offer a refined driving experience thanks to the company’s proprietary JRide system. This package adds a computer-balanced driveshaft, steering stabilizers, upgraded shocks, 22.5” tires, and other aftermarket upfits to the standard Ford F53 chassis. The result is a motorhome that feels lively and comfortable on the road.

Armed with dual A/C units and a heat pump, the Precept is well-equipped for extended-season camping. Seven-foot ceilings give the interior an open, airy feel, while recessed LED lighting and an electric fireplace add additional ambiance. Large, lockable pass-through storage compartments provide plenty of room for all your gear, while an outdoor shower, 200W solar panels, and a Winegard Wi-Fi/4G antenna are unexpected amenities.

Forest River FR3 Plus

An upgraded version of Forest River’s affordable FR3 model, the FR3 Plus takes everything that made the original RV so popular and turns it up to eleven. Like others on this list, this motorhome is built on the Ford F53 platform upgraded with the MORryde chassis conversion uplift. Under the hood, the vehicle features a 335HP engine with 468 lb.-ft of torque. That gives it a towing capacity of up to 5,000 lbs. for bringing along a dinghy.

The 2024 edition of the FR3 Plus is available in two unique floorplans: the 35’ 1” 33Z model and the larger 37’ 7” 35G. Both are built using a vacuum-bonded construction method on the roof, floor, and sidewalls that ensure quality and longevity. They also include LED lighting, frameless windows, pass-through storage, an outdoor shower and entertainment center, a power awning, and electric headway entrance stairs.

The Euro is equipped with a 30,000 BTU furnace and two air conditioning units, and it is designed for use in a wide variety of climates and temperatures. It also comes with a 5,500kW gas generator, a 100W solar panel, and 50-amp shore power. Automatic leveling jacks keep things stable at the campsite, while a legless patio awning extends the living space outdoors.

The Euro’s interior is bright, modern, and open. Notable features include a computer workstation prewired with USB and 12V power connections. A comfy king-size bed occupies the RV’s lone slideout, while the nearby bathroom offers on-demand hot water, a stainless steel sink, a porcelain toilet, and a spacious shower with glass doors. The kitchen’s array of features includes an induction cooktop, solid-surface counters, a stainless steel sink with a high-rise faucet, and a double-door residential refrigerator. All of this comes at a very affordable starting price of $159,999.

These are our picks for the best Class A motorhomes under $250,000. While that’s still a high price point, these models offer great value, with plenty of features and amenities to make any RV camping experience a great one.
