‘Survivor’ Contestant Hannah Rose Responds to Haters
On Wednesday night, Hannah Rose’s decision to quit Survivor left some people on the internet angry because she “stole someone else’s dream,” and she said she woke up to harassing messages.

Although she anticipated the “hate” in her final message on the season 45 premiere, she told reporters that she had “not felt a deep level of shame or embarrassment or pain and fear until this morning.”
Rose, a licensed therapist in Maryland, told Entertainment Weekly that she’s been coping with it by talking with fellow cast members and those close to her. “I talk about it. I cry, drink my coffee. I’m going to be honest about it,” she said. “I’m not going to come on here and say, ‘I don’t care what anyone thinks about quitting.’”
Throughout the episode, she cried alongside fellow castaway Brandon Donlon, a 26-year-old content producer from New Jersey. And, after her team’s second loss, she said in a confessional that her biggest concern was getting her team to vote her out.
And then, in the final minutes of the show, she told everybody at the Tribal Council — the name they give when contestants get together to vote someone off the show — that if they didn’t vote for her, she’d quit.
Rose told Parade that her discomfort and distress on the show was real. “I couldn’t control my emotions, which was very new for me. I just could not stop crying on that island,” she said. “So I’d be crying, and then I’d be laughing and having a great time. Whatever the opposite of grounded is, I felt that.”
In addition to nicotine and caffeine withdrawal, Rose explained that she neither slept nor ate for the three days she was on the island. As for stealing the dreams of others, Rose said she really wanted to be there and has no regrets.
