‘Sometimes You Have to Share Your Fishing Spot’ . . . With a Bear (Video)
A viral video shows a fisherman in a sweet spot—so sweet that a grizzly bear comes to join him in the fishing fun. The angler has his line in the water as a bear comes wading out into the river on two legs. The fisherman watches the grizzly wearily, then slowly starts to put some distance between himself and the animal. It seems the bear had dibs on this fishing spot after all.
Laura Lyn Gregory is the wildlife photographer who captured the awkward moment on video. Her hashtags suggest this interaction took place in Alaska at Katmai National Park, possibly in Brooks River. Sections of Brooks River are popular spots for grizzly bears to congregate as they fish for migrating salmon.
“Who should get the best fishing spot?” Gregory asks in her Instagram caption sharing the original video, which continues to rack up views online. “This person was in a precarious location based on water levels for sure. One wrong step and the water would be over his head. Would you fish in a bear’s honeyhole?”
