So THIS Is What a Photo Taken With a $13,000 Lens Looks Like . . .

Professional cinematographer Jay Fritts shared some mind-blowing photographs of a juvenile bald eagle on his Instagram page. It was not only the photos but also the photography equipment he used to take the photos that captured the internet’s attention. Jay used a Canon USA R5 camera with an RF 600 mm F4 lens. The lens alone costs around $13,000, and it’s clearly worth every penny.

Bald eagles are known to visit Lake Coeur d’Alene in northern Idaho to feed on spawning kokanee salmon during the winter months, between November and February. Jay spotted a group of eagles in this area, and he captured 2,500 images of one eagle in particular while watching it at a distance over the course of four days.

Some people on Instagram say the incredible photographs must be AI-generated images. However, Jay says they are the product of his high-specification lens, which weighs around 6 lbs (2.7 kg).

The mirrorless Canon R5 camera also has an animal eye-tracking autofocus feature. Jay managed to capture some incredible images using his pricey equipment, including a shot of the eagle mid-blink.

“My biggest surprises were how stable the lens holds handheld, and just how absolutely CRISP the detail is,” Jay shared in his post. “It’s been incredible to handle over the last few days,” he said.Do you love photography?
