‘Simply Magic’: Biologist Captures Rare Mammal Soaring Overhead

Dr. Ana Gracanin, a conservation biologist, captured a greater glider, a small “flying” mammal, soaring overhead at night, and people online are calling her footage “incredible.” The cute Australian mammal is similar to a koala, but like a flying squirrel, it uses flaps of skin on its sides to glide from tree to tree.

Greater gliders are endangered, with populations declining due to bush fires, logging, and other types of habitat destruction. Since greater gliders are nocturnal and live high up in trees, it’s rare for humans to see them in the wild, making Gracanin’s footage very special.

“Simply magic,” wrote Gracanin in her Instagram post sharing the video. She mentioned in a comment reply that the video is from south of Sydney, Australia.
