Many dealerships, including Great American RV Superstores, took to social media to promote National Go RVing Day on June 11.

Building upon the success of its inaugural 2022 event, the recent National Go RVing Day raised awareness for the RV industry while calling on industry members and RVers alike to celebrate the joys of RVing.

The idea for National Go RVing Day was created last year by the Go RVing public relations team, which was looking for a day the industry could rally around, according to Monika Geraci, RV Industry Association director of PR and communications. Many other industries have successful celebration days, so the thought was the RV industry event could benefit from having its own day, she added.

This year’s event—which was observed on Saturday, June 11—was celebrated by many dealers, suppliers, manufacturers and campground members, Geraci said. She noted that celebrating the event in June coincides with National Camping Month and Great Outdoors Month and directly followed RVIA’s annual RVs Move America event in Washington, D.C.

In preparation for National Go RVing Day, Go RVing provided a toolkit for its industry partners that they could use to promote the day to their audiences and consumers. That toolkit included social media graphics including National Go RVing Day logos, a sample newsletter article plus a press release template.

“Everything in the toolkit could be used as-is or customized for specific audiences,” Geraci said. “We know that some businesses don’t have full-time marketing people, so for them they could just take we provided and run with it. And then other companies have marketing teams that do their own content marketing, like blogs and eNewsletters, that could tailor messages to their audiences. We saw businesses do both successfully.”

Facebook and Instagram were two of the more popular social media tools for getting the word out about National Go RVing Day.

Many dealers, suppliers, manufacturers and campgrounds took to Facebook and Instagram to promote National Go RVing Day, according to Geraci.

Meanwhile, as part of its efforts to help get the word out in advance, Geraci said Go RVing hosted a webinar specifically for dealers letting them know how they could pitch the day—and indirectly their businesses—to local TV stations.

“There are a lot of dealers who do TV pitches very well, and then there are some who want to do it but maybe haven’t done it before. So, we offered the webinar as a resource to talk through the ABCs of pitching local television,” she said. “There are no guarantees, but it can be a great way to get the word out about your dealership in your local market.”

For its part, Go RVing made use of its brand ambassador, Mike Caudill, who created a special video as part of a news package talking about National Go RVing Day that TV stations could make use of. Geraci said about two dozen news stations posted Caudill’s video on their website and an additional eight stations did live TV segments talking about National Go RVing Day.

“So, we definitely saw that this year’s event was bigger than last year,” Geraci said, “and we have high hopes for next year’s National Go RVing Day as well.”
