On a gray and overcast morning last Friday, Nov. 17, a group of RV Women’s Alliance (RVWA) volunteers from East to West, Newmar, Winnebago and Century rolled up their sleeves at the Habitat for Humanity job site in Goshen, Ind.

Among those helping to hang cabinets Friday morning was Val Ronzone, sales coordinator for East to West, a division of Forest River.

“It’s a chance for us to give back,” said Ronzone, noting that she participated in an RVWA-sponsored Habitat build last year and other builds before joining the industry women’s group.

“We’re very fortunate to work for the company we are with — East to West — and Habitat, too, is a great organization. They do a lot for people. Besides that, it feels good to get out of the office and do some physical work after sitting at a desk all day.”

Ronzone’s East to West colleague Samantha White echoed those sentiments. A first-timer with Habitat, White spoke of her satisfaction in going out and helping people. In addition, she said the hands-on experience gives her a new perspective on her job. “As customer service manager for East to West, I’m involved in warranty claims. This experience will help me make better choices when working on warranty.”

RVWA works with members across the U.S. to participate in Habitat for Humanity builds in their local areas.

Susan Carpenter

Susan Carpenter, RVWA president, explained that Habitat for Humanity is an easy fit, as “they do all women builds.”

Additionally, Carpenter elaborated, “One thing we do at RVWA is Community Service Networking. For those who might find networking intimidating, it’s a chance to network differently while getting out in the community. Not everyone is comfortable walking into a room full of strangers. This way, people can focus on working on a project yet organically network with others.”

For those volunteering in their local community, let RVWA Managing Director Tricia Carrera know where you are participating by emailing her at [email protected].

Sustaining sponsors of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County include Lippert, Patrick Industries, Welsh Packaging and the Bontrager Family Foundation.
