RVTAA Member Serves as RV Service Resource on JustAnswer
ATHENS, Texas – The RV Technician Association of America (RVTAA) today (Sept. 1) reported one of its members was approved to serve on the JustAnswer platform.
Located at www.justanswer.com, the website offers around-the-clock access to more than 12,000 verified professionals in more than 150 categories, such as RV service.
When a consumer asks a question on the JustAnswer website or app, the system matches him or her with someone experienced in that area, then initiates an online chat. Members also have the option of receiving assistance by phone.
Michael LaMar is the first RVTAA member to be formally recognized by JustAnswer as a professional in the area of RV service. An RVTAA-registered RV service technician, he graduated from the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in January 2020. LaMar is also a certified RV inspector with the National RV Inspectors Association (NRVIA).
He and his family are full-time RVers. As they travel across the United States, LaMar supports their lifestyle by fixing and inspecting RVs wherever he may be.
“I field about 10 to 12 inquiries a day from JustAnswer,” LaMar explained. “Each time there is an inquiry, it appears in my JustAnswer inbox. If I choose to answer the question, then the issue is locked to my profile so I become the only person who can work with the customer on that problem.”
To be vetted for the opportunity, LaMar had to submit copies of his NRVTA graduation certificate, test results and RVTAA membership credentials. Once approved, he became a JustAnswer representative who could work remotely.
LaMar is not encouraged to promote his own business via the JustAnswer website; however, he is paid to answer a question to the point it can’t go any further and needs to be closed, he explained.
“I enjoy helping people resolve pressing problems on their own whenever possible,” said LaMar. “As a registered technician, I can help people troubleshoot common problems. Many times, it is an easy fix that RV users can do on their own, such as flip a particular switch.
“If a problem is too complicated, I advise the customer to seek a certified RV mobile service technician or take the RV to a licensed repair center,” he added.
A 20-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, LaMar worked as a certified home inspector for several years until he and his wife, Krystal, decided to RV full-time with their two teenage sons, KayCee and Ethan. Their oldest daughter, Kayla, is serving in the U.S. Marines.
“Due to the nature of home inspections and the local business relationships needed to succeed in that industry, I couldn’t continue offering that type of service on the road,” he explained. “So, I got training to become a certified RV inspector and opted to do that instead.
“By completing inspection training, I was able to take a test to become an RVTAA-registered RV technician as well,” said LaMar. “Doing inspections and repairs on the road keeps me busy.”
Gilda Mitchell, director of member benefits for RVTAA, said she was pleased JustAnswer found one of the association’s members to be a reliable resource to help other people. She knows several other RVTAA members have applied and are also being considered to join JustAnswer’s team of professionals.
“We know RVTAA members are well educated about RVs and the systems onboard them. We also know they are experienced troubleshooters who can help identify problems and repair them, too,” she added. “Whether it is due to an onsite visit or an online conversation with JustAnswer, it is nice to know RVTAA member technicians are helping people get more enjoyment and use out of their recreation vehicles.”
