RVMP Generators Start to Gain Traction in RV Marketplace – RVBusiness – Breaking RV Industry News
RV Mobile Power LLC (RVMP), an Elkhart, Ind.-based company that produces installed and portable generators under the “Flex Power” brand name, is looking to take the next step as it emerges from start-up status.
“We sold our first generator in 2021, and now we’re moving probably 1,500, 1,600 units a month,” said RVMP CEO Jimmy Conroy II, who founded the company in 2017. “And we’re going to continue that trajectory. It certainly would be more if the industry were seeing numbers like what we expected, but we’re very pleased with the development of things.”
The customer for that first generator was Way Interglobal, which is where Conroy began closely working with Wayne Kaylor, who at the time was the owner and president of Way Interglobal before the company was acquired by Lippert in November 2022.
Way’s generator business was excluded from the transaction, which Kaylor, a 38-year RV industry veteran, turned into NxtGen LLC. After some discussion it became apparent to Conroy and Kaylor that RVMP and NxtGen could do better as a single entity so, in July 2023, RVMP acquired NxtGen.
Conroy said his previous stint with Lippert fueled his passion for disrupting the market.
“Being that I was an executive for Jason (Lippert), his MO is always to find a market where someone’s asleep at the wheel that you can do better, you can get in there and innovate product and innovate customer service,” Conroy said. “And so, knowing those lessons, I thought this was an area that we could pursue – and I did.”
RVMP offers two installed generators, the 5500i Dual Fuel Generator and the 4000i Dual Fuel Generator. Its portable generator line includes five models ranging from the Flex Power 2200i Silent Portable Inverter Generator all the way up to the Flex Power 9000ies.
RVMP generators have a variety of advances that elevate it above the competition, said both Conroy and Kaylor. Among those differentiators are increased safety, dual fuel capability, smaller footprint, lighter weight, CARB compliance, and a smaller engine with the same power output. To be sure, there are many more advances, but that delves into engineering technicalities shielded by patents and other intellectual property protections.
Suffice to say, Conroy and Kaylor strongly believe they have built a better mousetrap.
“There’s no doubt about it. Technologically, nobody’s even close. So, as we continue to improve – which we have – it’s just going to continue to get better,” said Kaylor, adding that RVMP’s generator innovation is “the biggest reason we got into this a couple of years back.”
For Conroy’s part, he said the “devil is in the details when you get into this kind of thing. Every step that we could take, we’ve opted for the best without sacrificing the quality or the price point – we’ve got to maintain that price point.
“The sweet spot in the RV industry is you have to be the best product, but you can’t be the best product and be the most expensive,” he continued. “So, you have to be the best product and still meet that price window. It’s easy to develop something that you can build and have it sell for whatever. It’s like, ‘Hey, this is great. It’s innovative, but it’s 25% more expensive.’ You’re never going to sell it.
“So, we really had to figure out how do we make this thing better, but also how do we take some dollars out of the material cost for our consumer? That was really the mandate and I think we’ve done a good job with that. But we’ve also raised the industry standard,” he added.
Going forward, the two said RVMP will continue to develop products and a service network to support those products, continue to make inroads with the RV OEMs and dealers, and continue to run a lean company intent on disrupting the market.
“The final point is customer service is because it’s one thing to have a great product, but there’s so many different people installing it so many different ways,” Conroy said. “We have to be able to support the customer, and I don’t think anybody is working as hard as we are. 10 o’clock at night, we’re there. Whatever it is, we’re going to be there. We’re going to be there until the end. We’re going to figure it out. We’re going to work together.
“As our customers want to innovate, we’re right there with them, too,” he continued. “And that’s definitely been one of our biggest assets is that everybody that’s working with us has that same mindset. Because we do have that startup mindset, we have to get it done. We have to earn the next account. We have to go above and beyond. We are in no position to rest upon some prominent name from 30 years ago. We have to build our name today.”
