Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway into Yellowstone National Park
Make Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway your first road trip. On this drive following the North Fork of the Shoshone River to Yellowstone, you’ll encounter elk, eagles, and more. Follow the map through Buffalo Bill State Park into Wapiti Valley, the route Teddy Roosevelt called “the most scenic 50 miles in the world.” Once you enter Yellowstone National Park, more than 1,100 miles of mapped hiking trails await.

The Beartooth Highway — the Most Beautiful Drive in America
North of Cody Yellowstone is The Beartooth Highway (pictured), deemed “the most beautiful drive in America” by the journalist Charles Kuralt. Here, you’ll witness incredible views from an elevation of 10,947 feet, the highest motor crossing in Wyoming. Feeling adventurous? Take the dirt road eight miles from the junction to Clay Butte Fire Lookout for sights you will never forget. Cameras won’t do it justice. You have to see it to believe it.
Sweet Treads on The Bighorn Basin Loop
If it’s character and charm you seek, the Bighorn Basin Loop is for you. This 257-mile trek winds through broken ranges, badlands, free-flowing hot springs, and dinosaur dig sites. Be sure to pack a lunch; this loop takes the entire day to complete.
Recharge in Cody, Wyoming
Cody, Wyoming, is a fantastic spot to recharge after a long drive. Park your RV at one of 98 RV sites at Ponderosa Campground or stay in one of their incredible teepees for a unique experience. If you want to escape the RV for a night, check out the glamping Tipis or sheep wagons at Cody Trout Ranch Camp (pictured).

If you pack light or forget to pack necessities, Chief Joseph RV Park has you covered. Here, you can buy fuel and groceries, enjoy a meal at their restaurant, or even drop by the bar or liquor store for your favorite spirit.
Stay close to town and nature at the Yellowstone Valley Inn & RV Park in Shoshone National Forest. This area has a more traditional camping feel amongst the trees but also has a restaurant, saloon, hot tub, and pool. Also located here is the Shoshone National Forest Campgrounds, with an expansive wilderness and backcountry area, providing the perfect escape from everyday life. Want to stay by the water? Try Buffalo Bill State Park. This campground is on Buffalo Bill Reservoir, which is ideal for the paddleboarders in your group.
Camping at the KOA site makes traveling with kids easy. This campground runs shuttles every summer evening to the Cody Nite Rodeo and has a playground, swimming pool, off-leash dog area, and more.
