Another week has come and gone, which means it’s time for another round-up of the latest news from the RV and camping industry. These are the most important stories you may have missed over the past few days.
- SylvanSport Officially Launches the Vast Travel Trailer: North Carolina-based towables manufacturer SylvanSport has announced that its new Vast travel trailer is now available. The company has been teasing the innovative new RV for months, but now the Vast is finally shipping to customers. Standout features include two queen-size beds, a power awning from Thule, a comfortable lounge area, ample onboard storage, and a kitchenette that slides outside of the camper to reveal a massive shower. - Adventure Wagon Intros Collection of Gear Accessories for Camper Vans: Adventure Wagon—a Portland-based camper van conversion company—has announced a new line of curated accessories for use in Class B models. Dubbed “Gear Shop,” that make up the collection includes premium storage solutions, new sleep options, power supplies, and other camping products. Shop the entire lineup here.
- Solar-Powered Truck Sets EV Altitude Record: Last week, we shared a story about a modified Porsche 911 setting a new altitude record by driving up a 22,000-foot volcano in Chile. Not to be outdone, Swiss transportation development company Gebrüder Weiss sent a team of drivers up the same volcano this week in an attempt to set an altitude record of its own. This time, the goal was to take a rugged solar-powered electric truck as far up the mountain as possible. The burly vehicle reached an altitude of 21,325 feet, besting the previous mark by 2,244 feet. Read more about this undertaking here.
- KOA Examines Accessibility at the Campground: Kampgrounds of America’s monthly research report for December is out, and as usual, it tackles some compelling issues facing the RV and camping community. This time, KOA takes a look at the accessibility challenges that campers with disabilities face while at the campground. The report examines four accessibility components, including cognitive, visual, motor/mobility, and auditory obstacles, and discusses the impact they have on travelers. The goal is to raise awareness of accessibility issues within the RV/camping industry in order to make strides toward addressing them. Read the full report here.
- Chinook RV Launches YouTube Channel: This week, Chinkook RV—which manufactures a line of Class C vehicles—announced the launch of its YouTube channel. The company hopes to use the video-sharing platform to host informational and educational clips that help Chinook owners get the most out of their campers. The first clip added was a walkthrough of the new 2024 summit model, which can be viewed here.
- Millennial RVers Driving Camping Furniture Boom: A new report from Future Market Insights (FMI) indicates the camping furniture space is booming at the moment and is expected to increase to $422.2 million in revenue in 2024. That represents a healthy 4.8% growth year-over-year, mostly spurred on by Millennial campers who have adopted the RV lifestyle over the past few years. - New Reality TV Show to Focus on Campground Cabin Makeovers: Fans of reality TV may have a new show to obsess over. Earlier this week, real estate development company Servio Captial announced Cabin Wars: Flip It To Win It, which will follow contestants as they compete to renovate camping cabins at a Lousiana RV park. Filming is set to begin in January 2024.
