Ribbon Cutting Set for THOR Lab at Lifeline’s ‘The HUB’ – RVBusiness – Breaking RV Industry News
ELKHART, Ind. – An open house for The HUB and the THOR RV Learning Lab is planned from 3-4 p.m. April 17.
Join Lifeline Youth Ministries, THOR Industries, THOR Motor Coach and local dignitaries for the event at Lifeline’s The HUB at 2721 Prairie St., Elkhart, Ind.
Bob Martin, THOR Industries President & CEO and Rick Schutt, THOR Director of Community Engagement, toured Lifeline’s vocational trades program in August of 2022, viewing the remodeling and new construction that had been accomplished on State Street by Lifeline’s student construction team. Included in the tour was Lifeline’s new 54,000 sq. ft. building called The HUB which included a large vocational training area along with over 45,000 sq. ft. of space for youth activities.
With the common goal of training high school students to be work ready, a partnership was forged. Within the HUB, THOR launched the RV Learning Lab, where students from across Elkhart County are trained in electrical, plumbing, cabinet making, tool usage and safety programs. Currently, THOR is partnering with five school systems throughout Elkhart Country to offer the RV Learning Lab as part of their curriculum.
With the success of the student construction program, Lifeline explored additional vocational training opportunities to offer to students of Elkhart Academy, an alternative education program offered by Elkhart Community schools. The new HUB provides a variety of diverse business options in which Elkhart Academy students learn various aspects of a business while working alongside qualified staff. Lifeline has announced four new job training programs, giving students real world job experience.
- Silk Screening
- Embroidery
- Graphic Design
- Sound Studio Experience
Students involved in the Lifeline construction program are now working in the trades at a variety of companies such as DJ Construction, Moyer electric and Landscape Innovations. Many of these students were also named ‘Student of the Year’ at Elkhart Academy, according to the release.
“Seeing the incredible life changing results programs at the HUB offers to local students, Lifeline is excited to be partnered with THOR. We look forward to the impact the vocational training programs will make in the lives of students,” the release stated.
