Rare Colocolo Cat Sighting on Trail Cam in Chile

A small wild cat called the colocolo (Leopardus colocola) or Pampas cat wandered up to a trail camera in Chile and booped it with its little nose. It sniffed the camera, then moved on, and the trail-cam footage is as adorable as you’d expect. The Colocolo Project shared the video on Instagram for the world to see.

Colocolo cats live in parts of South America, and though they’re not endangered in the wild, they are elusive and “near threatened” according to the IUCN. Scientists don’t know too much about how these small wild cats spend their time, so sightings like this on trail cams are exciting for those who study them.
