‘Rare and Dangerous Encounter’: Black Mamba vs. Eagle vs. Lion

“Whilst out tracking lions, the team stumbled upon a Black Mamba having an altercation with a Brown Snake Eagle,” wrote PaintedDog TV in a YouTube video caption. “The sighting took an unexpected turn when the resident Lions arrived on the scene!” That’s right, the team at Rietspruit Game Reserve in South Africa witnessed a black mamba vs. an eagle vs. a lion. As if a black mamba vs. a lioness wouldn’t be interesting enough.

In a social media post sharing a clip of the YouTube video, Painted Dog TV wrote: “A rare and dangerous encounter—one of Africa’s most formidable predators meets one of its most feared serpents. Lions, though apex predators, are not immune to the dangers of the bush, and this lioness learned that firsthand when she came face to face with a black mamba. With lightning-fast reflexes, she swatted at the snake, likely startled by its sudden movement. But the mamba, known for its speed and deadly venom, didn’t back down easily, standing its ground in a tense standoff.”

In fact, by the end of the encounter there are several lions interested in both the snake and the eagle, which is somehow still alive. This video is wild, and it’s another example of how, sometimes, fact is stranger than fiction. How do you think this one ends?
