A rescue story from southern Utah is even more wonderful because of a bizarre coincidence that may have helped save two stranded hikers’ lives. A father and his 12-year-old son were hiking in Snow Canyon when they become lost and then got stuck on a narrow cliff ledge.

While stuck, the father and son found an abandoned backpack from a previously stranded hiker in the same spot. The pack had supplies, which they used to survive the cold night as they waited for help to arrive. CBS News reports that the random backpack had a mylar blanket, food, and water inside.
