Octopus Shocks Washington Hikers (Who Think It’s a Jellyfish)

A group of friends came across a giant Pacific octopus in Bellingham Bay in Washington, and they were both shocked and delighted. While they don’t seem to have a clue what it is, that doesn’t change the fact that the hikers were absolutely loving the moment. Their awe is infectious, and a video one of the friends took went viral.

“Found this crazy looking jellyfish in bellingham bay,” wrote Micah Moeller in his first of two Instagram Reels sharing the fun moment. “I’ve never seen anything like it!”

Many people who watched the video for the octopus then stayed for the comments. While the top comment is correcting Moeller by stating that the animal is indeed an octopus, there are dozens and dozens of comments claiming the animal is something else entirely—all in jest, of course.

“Thats a water giraffe! Know your astronomy!” wrote one person.

“That’s not a jellyfish, it’s a llama,” joked another.
