NHTSA Releases its Most Recent Installment of RV Recalls

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is the latest list of RV recalls compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Per strict NHTSA protocols, manufacturers will next notify its dealer partners of the recall notice. Each notice will include details of the affected vehicles as well as the appropriate remedy.

• Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling 137 2023 Bambi vehicles. The capacity of the freshwater tank was overstated, resulting in an incorrect Cargo Carrying Capacity label. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, “Tire Selection and Rims.” Airstream will mail corrected labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 20, 2023.

• Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling 20,500 2021-2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris, Sprinter, and 2021 Freightliner Sprinter vehicles. The fuel pump may shutdown, which can result in a loss of drive power. Dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 28, 2023.

• Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling 213 2022-2024 Tranquility and 2022-2023 Sanctuary motorhomes. The R-bike rack arms may fracture and detach. Dealers will replace the defective components of the bike rack, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 26, 2023.

• Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling 105 2023-2024 Interstate 24 and Interstate 19 motorhomes. The main cable from the battery to the fuse panel may be under-protected by a 200-amp fuse, which could allow the wiring to overheat in the event of a short circuit. Dealers will replace the 200-amp fuse with a 50-amp fuse, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 27, 2023.

• Grand Design RV, LLC (Grand Design) is recalling certain 2023 Momentum and Reflection travel trailers, equipped with certain 5200 and 6000 CURT RV axles. The axles may have an improperly tightened grease fitting that can separate and cause damage, possibly resulting in wheel detachment. Dealers will inspect and repair, or replace the grease fittings, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 26, 2023.
