New York Mixed Bag: Delaware River Tailwaters Joint Management Plan meeting to be held February 25 – Outdoor News

Hancock, N.Y.— The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will hold a virtual public information session on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. to inform New Yorkers about the new Delaware River Tailwaters Joint Trout Management Plan, designed in partnership with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

The Delaware River Tailwaters support a nationally renowned sport fishery for wild trout and the protection and enhancement of this premier fishery remains a top priority for both DEC and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. The plan will guide both agencies in the strategic and science-based management of trout in the East and West branches of the Delaware River, including from the village of Hancock in Delaware County, downriver to the town of Callicoon in Sullivan County.

During the meeting, DEC fisheries managers will outline the major tenets of the joint management plan, which include balancing the need to manage and restore natural populations while also providing additional recreational opportunities. To read the plan and register for the meeting, visit here.

DEC Hosts Mentored Pheasant Hunt in Albany County

Albany — DEC recently hosted and sponsored a pheasant hunt at the Partridge Run Wildlife Management Area, in Albany County. On Jan. 18, DEC staff collaborated with volunteers from Pheasants Forever to offer a unique late-season pheasant hunting opportunity to 17 hunters.

Following a brief overview of the hunt, and a review of hunting safety practices, the hunters were divided into groups with their mentors and headed out to the field. Each group was fortunate to have two mentors and two canine companions to assist in the hunting process. The group harvested nine birds and after the hunt enjoyed pheasant tacos and hot dogs, prepared on-site by DEC staff.
