Live Large at West Glacier KOA Resort!

As the summer heats up, many of us are looking for a cooler vacation up North. And what better place than Glacier National Park? This huge park stretches up to the Canadian border and it’s full of lakes, rivers, and tall pines. If you’re willing to drop some cash, the best camping spot in town is the West Glacier KOA Resort.

This campground offers a premium resort experience, while still being located in a gorgeous wooded area. You get the best of both worlds when you stay here. This is also a great destination for outdoorsy types because there are endless opportunities for hiking, biking, swimming, and so much more.

West Glacier KOA Resort is one of the more expensive RV parks you might find, but most guests find that the price is worth it. You’ll have access to all kinds of amenities and activities during your visit, not to mention a gorgeous campsite.

Overview

West Glacier KOA Resort is located in West Glacier, Montana. It’s a fairly remote area where nature takes the main focus. But there are other towns in the vicinity, including Whitefish, Kalispell, and Columbia Falls. Additionally, the Flathead River arcs around the park, so you can drive in several different directions to reach the water.

This is a large resort with a grand total of 227 sites. Tent sites and rental cabins are also available, so campers of all types are welcome here! Full hookups are available at the majority of the RV sites.

Because Montana experiences harsh winters, this park is only open on a seasonal basis. Visitors are welcome from May 1–October 1 so there’s a nice long open period you can take advantage of.

Summers near Glacier National Park are generally quite mild, ranging in the 70–80 degree range. But even if a heat wave strikes while you’re up north, you’ll have access to huge shady forests and icy rivers to cool down.

As for the pricing, the West Glacier KOA Resort does come at a premium. It’s a large, well-maintained park with bountiful amenities. We’ll explore the value later on, but you should know that the prices here can range between $150–$250 per night. So you may not want to book a long-term stay here, but it’s definitely a great vacation spot!

You can explore up-to-date prices and availability at the resort website. You may notice that certain seasons or days of the week can impact the price as well, so keep an eye open for all your options!

Amenities

Now it’s time to get to the good stuff! Once you see all the different luxuries that this resort offers, you’ll see why they can charge such high rates and still be booked for most of the year!

For starters, all the necessities are covered. The campground staff work tirelessly to maintain clean bathrooms, modern laundry facilities, and hot showers.

Although you can always visit the nearby lakes and rivers, West Glacier KOA has multiple pools and hot tubs for you to enjoy. Some pools are for families, while others are adults-only, so you can customize your experience. These are clean and heated so you can stay nice and warm even if you visit in the fall.

In such a remote area, you might worry about where you can find a decent meal. Well look no further than Lazy Bear Cafe! This on-site restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even an espresso bar. Live music is performed every night as well, so you may want to stop by even if you’re not hungry.

For something lighter, check out Scoops Ice Cream Shop for a frozen treat. Or if you’re in the mood for a happy hour, stroll up to the Bearstream Bar. This is an Airstream trailer that has been converted into the hottest drink bar around!

Forgot something? No worries! The campground store has all the necessities you’re looking for including groceries, firewood, propane, snacks, and souvenirs. And although all of the RV sites are level and comfortable, some come with extra perks like patios, shade umbrellas, and outdoor dining areas.

Pets and children are also more than welcome here and there’s plenty of space for them to run around and play. Children will love the playground, plus there are lots of planned activities that everyone in the park can participate in. If you need a little distance from everything, you can always hop onto the connected hiking trail to clear your mind.

Every detail is accounted for during your stay, so you don’t have to worry about being bored or uncomfortable while you’re here.

Nearby Activities/Attractions

When it comes to recreation and entertainment, it’s all centered around the great outdoors. West Glacier is a small town and it was built as an entryway to the famous national park. Nature lovers will have no shortage of options.

While you’re in the area, you may want to try white-water rafting, river floats, fly fishing, taking hikes, biking through the woods, or bird-watching. Bird lovers will also love the Birds of Prey Presentations from the Montana Wild Wings Recovery Center. These events spotlight the beautiful and fascinating wildlife in Montana and how we can protect it.

There are also some interesting attractions like the Museum of the Plains Indian, Lake McDonald Lodge, and the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The views are stunning up here so you can get a scenic view from just about anywhere!

The reviews are in and they are positively glowing! West Glacier KOA Resort has an overall score of 9.4/10 on RV LIFE Campgrounds. Some 94% of the guests gave it a score of Good or Excellent (with the vast majority going for Excellent).

Visitors all remarked that they loved the location and the close proximity to Glacier National Park. The landscaping was another thing that received a lot of praise. The entire park is green and lush, plus it’s accentuated with rustic buildings and fun decorations. Other people commented that they enjoyed the restaurant and ice cream shop, as well as all the other amenities that were offered.

There were a few points of critique though. The biggest one was definitely the price. This resort is on the more expensive side and it limited the time that some people were able to stay. There were also a few issues with the Wi-Fi signal due to the remote area and a few people felt that their campsites were a bit too close together.

But overall, the repeated sentiment is that this park is expensive, but definitely worth a visit. Some guests even stayed for longer than they intended because they loved it so much. If you’re curious, treat yourself to a night or two!
