Horizon Transport and Wave Express drivers, staff and customers joined together June 2 for the first annual Red & Blue Golf Open at Black Squirrel Golf Course in Goshen, Ind.

Rob Jackson, who serves as president of the employee-owned sister companies, said the event was a continuation of Horizon’s Driver’s Appreciation Day held the day before – Wave Express’ Driver Appreciation Day will be June 7 – as well as a celebration of the milestone anniversaries of the sister companies — 40 years for Horizon and 20 years for Wave.

“We wanted to make the weekend driver-centric,” Jackson said, adding the red was for Horizon and the blue for Wave Express.

The event was also an opportunity to bring awareness to the Care Camps Foundation, a national non-profit organization that funds medically supervised pediatric oncology camps across the United States and Canada, which is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Horizon/Wave is making a $10,000 donation to Care Camps Foundation on behalf of the golf outing.

Jackson wondered aloud how seeing the joy on the faces of the kids with cancer escaping the reality of cancer treatments while at a Care Camp couldn’t help but resonate with people and make them “want to open their checkbooks.”

“I think it’s important for all of us in the RV industry to do our part to support the Care Camps Foundation — if we can,” Jackson said.

About 60 people — drivers and staff from both Horizon and Wave as well as representatives from Forest River and Alliance RV – took part in the golf outing, which included lunch, prizes and a golf scramble.

“It was a way to bring everyone together to have fun and visit with one another while highlighting a great cause,” Jackson said.
