Happy New Year! 5 New Year’s Resolutions For RVers
New Year’s resolutions are nothing new. As a matter of fact, people have been celebrating the New Year with resolutions for thousands of years. The changing of the year happens right smack in the middle of winter, when there isn’t an awful lot to keep us busy. The timing is perfect. It gives everyone the opportunity to reflect on events of the last year and it’s a great time to decide what we will do to make the next one the best year ever.
Traditionally, New Year’s resolutions involve changing the way we live somehow. They’re usually made with the goals of improving health and fitness, finances, or relationships. Many people will also be resolving to reduce their impact on the environment by adopting greener ways of living, too. RVers have a unique set of priorities with regard to New Year’s resolutions, so we made a detailed list of New Years Resolutions, especially for RVers ,
1. Keep Track of RV Maintenance Chores
A lot of your ability to make lasting memories in your RV depends on how long it lasts. And a large part of how long your RV lasts depends on you doing RV maintenance chores consistently. There are maintenance jobs that need to be done every trip, every month, every 3 months, every 6 months, and annually. It can be hard to keep track of what needs to be done, and when. But making a New Year’s resolution to keep track of all your RV maintenance chores is always worthwhile. You can opt to write everything in a simple notebook, a log book, or a calendar. However, by far the easiest way to keep track of RV maintenance tasks is to use the RV LIFE Maintenance App. The app lets you input the make, model, and year of your RV as well as your maintenance records. Then it keeps track of everything and sends you an alert when there is upcoming maintenance that needs doing. You can click here to check the app out for yourself.
2. Learn How to Do Your own RV Maintenance
We all know how busy RV technicians and dealerships are these days. If you need something done, you’ll often have to wait for months. Worse yet is when you send your RV in for maintenance and you get it back and they’ve done a poor job or missed things entirely. Believe it or not, the best solution can be doing your own RV maintenance. While there are a few jobs that should definitely be left to a certified RV technician, most RV maintenance tasks are easy to do yourself, once you know what to do. NRVTA (National RV Training Academy) has a really good RV maintenance and repair course just for RV owners. You’ll learn how to maintain all of your RV’s systems the right way, using the appropriate tools. You can click here to find out more.
3. Resolve to Become an Explorer
This one is for those people who do the same things and go to the same places every year. You’d be surprised at all the delightful things that can happen when you spice things up with a little variety. You don’t have to make drastic changes to your routine to be an explorer. You can explore at whatever level you’re comfortable with. Just try something new. It could be going out for dinner and trying a different cuisine that you haven’t tried before. Or it could be trying a different brand of coffee. If you don’t get out in your RV as much as you’d like, camp in your driveway. Or, if you are up for it, there are endless, amazing places you can camp in your RV while you enjoy nature and new surroundings.
But one step at a time. Where is one place you want to see but you haven’t been to? Start by making plans to go there. RV LIFE Trip Wizard is a handy tool for finding new and fabulous places and planning an RV-safe route to get there.
4. Resolve to Cut Back on Junk Food and Drinks On the Road
OK, I know cutting back on junk food will be hard for a lot of RVers, especially the recreational ones. Junk food is defined as low-nutrition, high-fat, sugary, or salty foods. When you cut back on junk food on your road trips, you’ll reap the benefits of more mental alertness, less tiredness, and better mood and overall health. When we ingest high levels of simple carbohydrates like sugar, our energy levels can spike for a short period. But as blood sugar drops again, our energy crashes and we can become grouchy and more tired than we were before. If you want to stay mentally alert and happy, this could be a good year to go sugar-free on your road trips. Instead of sugary snacks try snacking on fresh fruit, fresh veggies, pita bread and hummus, savory kale chips or roasted pumpkin seeds. Thirsty? Drink water or try making aromatic spiced chai tea ahead of time to enjoy on the road.
5. Make a New Year’s Resolution for Less Stress so You Can Enjoy the Journey More
Too often, we hurry and fret through what’s supposed to be a vacation. One of the wonderful things about our RVs is that they are perfectly suited to a slower-paced travel style. You can travel, and then stop and rest or sightsee for as long as you need to without worrying about catching a flight, or booking into a hotel on time. RV LIFE Pro has all the tools you need to plan an RV vacation or road trip where you can truly relax. There are three checklists you should have to help you plan a relaxing and enjoyable vacation:
- A packing list
- An RV pre-departure checklist
- An RV set-up checklist
Having checklists will help you be more organized so you’ll know what’s packed, that the RV is ready to go, and that you set everything up in the right order when you get there. This will help you to avoid any stress-inducing mishaps.

RVing is about having fun and having a comfortable spot to enjoy the beginning and end of each day. Whether you do this in your driveway or in a campground far from home, your RV is there to help you to create and enjoy happy memories. Happy New Year!
