Group of Black Bears Destroy Car (While Honking the Horn)

A group of black bears in northern California thought they had hit the jackpot when they overturned a trash can and broke into a car earlier this week near Mount Shasta, California. The only thing is, the bears didn’t realize that honking the car horn would give them away. The cops showed up, and the bears fled, leaving behind a real mess.
The Mount Shasta Police Department made light of the situation in a post to social media. A video compiled from body-cam footage shows the mess the bears made outside a home, as well as a bear fleeing from the vehicle—which it absolutely wrecked, by the way.

The Redding Record Searchlight reports that Mount Shasta police officers discovered one of the black bears in the driver’s seat of the car, honking the horn. A spokesperson for the police department said at least four bears participated in the frenzy, foraging through trash cans, eating pet food left outside, and climbing into the unlocked vehicle.
“When you think it’s a quiet night shift . . . and a bear jumps out of a CAR,” wrote the Mount Shasta Police Department in its Instagram post sharing the video. “Yep, you read that right. Last night we assisted the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office in a hairy situation.”
