ELKHART, Ind. — Seventy-two years after it was first manufactured and sold in Elkhart, a piece of RV history has made its way across country to its homebase, according to a report by The Goshen News.

This past Saturday, a 1951 28-foot Platt Trail-A-Home RV was unveiled for Harold D. Platt Jr., the son of the founder and president of Platt Trailer Co., Harold Platt Sr.

His grandson, Harold Eichhorn, his wife Jessica, their children and other family members were on hand for the big reveal, which came at the end of a tour at the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart.

The Platt Trailer Co. was started in 1935 by Oliver Platt when he purchased the Doloretta Trailer Co. building and assets. Doloretta had primarily made folding card tables, with some trailers as a sideline. That changed when Platt acquired the business.

“We have been searching for a Platt Trailer for 15-20 years,” Eichhorn said.
